Our stories become as important to us as a child. We love them unconditionally and believe them to be wonderful.

There is an old saying that you can't judge a book by its cover, but I think you should be able to do that.

The cover is the first thing that attracts a buyer/reader so my belief is that it should shout to the reader what it is about and the genre the story is in, and make them want to turn it over to read the back page copy.

​This too should be written in such a way that they couldn’t put it down again.

It is a daunting task, taking your manuscript from first draft to polished.
It sometimes takes a fresh set of eyes to pick up the small problems that we writers miss. We know our stories too well to see them. Being able to obtain and accept constructive feedback is an important part of being an author. 

Our editors have worked in the field for many years and are ready to help you with your manuscript.

You’ll get to work directly with an editor who cares about your success and you’ll be able to communicate with your editor by phone, email, and Skype as you work together on your project.

Mentorships are designed to assist authors in preparing and polishing their novels ready for submission to a publisher.

​They can also involve help formulating the documents for a written submission.

Send us your story by email and we will read it through and prepare a written report. This report will outline any major structural changes that we think may be needed. The time taken depends on the length of the manuscript. The average cost of the first read would be around $250.

In the first read, we will be looking at suitability to audience, story flow and structure, characterisation, and style, but will point out any grammatical errors and errors in punctuation, etc.

A face-to-face meeting will be organised to discuss the changes. Depending on your location, this might be at our writers’ centre or via Skype. If that is not possible, we can talk by phone. Usually 2 hours are enough for this, so the cost would be $90. So the total cost of each step would be around $340. 50% of this figure would be paid up front and the balance after the first meeting.

After you work on the manuscript, you will resubmit for a second review and meeting.
There is no set time for the mentorship as every writer works at a different pace. The mentorship can continue for as long as you feel you need help.
