April 11th: Tutor Ron Day
Ron Day holds a PhD from Central Queensland University, and is a published author of a series of computing text books for use in primary, secondary, and tertiary schools and colleges. He has had more than 30 years’ experience in teaching and writing.
Course cost: $50 One day—10am to 4pm
Using Similes and Metaphors
Memorable writing often makes use of figures of speech such as similes and metaphors. If fresh and original, they can lift description, add interest to any writing, and make it sparkle. This workshop will show you how it's done.
April 18th: Tutor Elaine Ouston:
Elaine Ouston holds a Master of Letters (MLitt) from Central Queensland University, and is a published author of a number of books for children. She is publishing editor at Morris Publishing Australia, an experienced writing tutor, editor, and designer, and has had many recommendations from students for her workshops.
Plotting your story:
This workshop will cover the importance of structure. It doesn’t matter if you are a ‘plotter’ or a ‘pantser’ this workshop will help make sure your story flows and doesn’t go off track.

APRIL 25th & 26th:
Sheryl Gwyther is an award-winning author and experienced writing workshop presenter for children and adults.
Two day workshop—10am to 4pm
Day one: Crafting unforgettable characters
Story characters underpin their story’s plot – if not fully developed they’re like paper-dolls. This hands-on workshop will include:
* How to create new engaging, believable characters using visual stimuli.
* Increase the complexity, vulnerability an appeal of your own story’s protagonist; and the effective use of your antagonist.
* Explore ways to use minor characters.
Day Two: Writing successful short stories
In this workshop, you will take yesterday's characters and write a short story about them.
This practical workshop will help:
* Find a story idea. * Improve your writing skills. * Draft and edit your story.
Cost: $160. 2 days 10am to 4pm

Writing believable dialogue:
Making the dialogue suit your character, add depth to the scene, and show emotion is an important part of making your character believable. We will examine ways to do that.
Course cost: $50 One day—10am to 4pm
May 16th: Tutor Ron Day
Create dramatic writing through the use of conflict and resolution:
Conflict and resolution are tools to provide the emotional highs and lows that will keep the audience on the edge of their chairs as the story develops.
Course cost: $50. 1 day 10am to 4pm
May 30th and 31st: Tutor Marianne de Pierres
Marianne de Pierres is the author of the popular PARRISH PLESSIS trilogy, the award-winning SENTIENTS OF ORION science fiction series, and the genre-bending PEACEMAKER Western/urban fantasy series.
Marianne has also authored children’s and young adult stories, notably the Night Creatures trilogy a dark fantasy series for teens. She also writes award-winning crime under the pseudonym Marianne Delacourt.

World-building - creating authentic worlds without turning your novel into an indigestible travel diary.
